Round 3 first-pass module — Section 3: capability and progression
Status: revised candidate for second audit; not self-ready and not final manuscript prose. The bounded narrative is text-ready for parent review, while raw and redrawn Fig. 1 panels remain artifact-dependency-gated. This module does not add experiment or reopen the analytical modules.
Section question and bounded answer
Question. How should Fig. 1 and its accompanying text establish the progression from steady discovery through periodic Kármán cloaking, nonperiodic vortex response and the 075 Illusion objective extension while reserving analytical depth for Kármán?
Bounded answer. Named visual and quantitative cases establish a progression in temporal dynamics and objective, while only Legacy Kármán Re100 has the full evidence intersection for deep interpretation; the figure therefore demonstrates breadth of execution under distinct contracts, not a pooled score, arbitrary-flow/generalization result or positive Illusion SR.
Layer 1 — readable paragraph draft/map
Paragraph 1 — viewing contract and figure composition
Fig. 1 should answer a capability question before the paper turns to interpretation: can the same broad force-plus-sparse-observation execution be used for named targets whose temporal and objective contracts differ? The answer is presented as a left-to-right progression, not as a common efficacy ranking. A small steady panel supplies the historical discovery seed; the visually dominant Kármán block establishes the principal field-matching comparison; smaller Vortex and 075 Illusion panels show, respectively, an event-relative transient extension and a non-zero-target objective extension. Legacy and V5 lanes must be printed in the panel labels and caption. Each panel names its case, chain, role, comparator and metric status, and the composition contains no experiment. [R2 freeze/style; M03; M04; M07; M08]
Figure placement: place Fig. 1 beside this opening paragraph. Allocate approximately 50–55% of the visual area to Kármán, with the steady, Vortex and 075 Illusion panels subordinate. Use visual juxtaposition to show the progression; do not place a common efficacy bar, pooled score, or gallery inventory beside it.
Paragraph 2 — short steady discovery seed
The first capability seed is steady control: near-uniform or constant rear rotation was explored before the periodic Kármán analysis. In this opening section it should be stated only as historical discovery and visible low-deficit capability under its own steady contract, not as a temporal performance score or as evidence for the Legacy SR/CCD chain. The full V5 steady/free-slip result, accepted sign, profile metric and theory limits belong to the later steady return. This ordering preserves the physical chronology—steady discovery followed by Kármán interpretation—without allowing the early seed to pre-empt the Kármán analysis. [R1 DRL/cases; R1 steady dossier; M08]
Seed panel contract: V5 steady/free-slip, accepted steady q_ctl against uniform/no-body q_in under E_inf_vector/profile status; q_blk is nonranking, and stationary/reverse views are contextual only. The panel establishes discovery chronology and a bounded visual endpoint only. It does not establish periodic phase matching, Legacy numerical continuation, mechanism, stability, optimum or pooled efficacy.
Paragraph 3 — Kármán headline and reason for depth
The headline comparison is the Legacy karman_re100 target, physical-zero and frozen PPO roles under one Legacy solver and geometry contract. Here Re100 is the Legacy code convention U_0(2D)/\nu=100, equivalent to single-cylinder Re_D=50; it is not a V5 numerical continuation. In the registered downstream rectangle, the controlled field is closer to the target than physical zero in both principal complete-cycle mean-field L2 and the separately defined eight-slot phase diagnostic: E_mean=0.085771 versus 0.475206 for zero, and E_phase8=0.112680 versus 0.630878. The corresponding zero-relative values are \eta_mean=0.819508 and \eta_phase8=0.821392. The exact principal field claim is spatial L2 under the Legacy drl-pinball-wake-l2-v2 contract; one concise complementary annotation is the six-channel target-normalized DTW similarity, 0.932899 controlled versus 0.625127 zero under the 30-step cycle contract (higher is better), not a field norm or physical delay. [M03; M04]
Kármán is selected for depth because it has the evidence intersection needed for interpretation: a named Legacy target/zero/controlled field comparison, executable Legacy SR evidence, corrected mean/dynamic field roles and CCD description, with V5 Re100 seed/retention information as secondary context. The selection is not a claim that steady, Vortex or Illusion are less important, nor an inference that they failed. It is the case in which capability, independent field matching and bounded action/field interpretation coexist under traceable contracts. [M04; M05; M06; M08]
Paragraph 4 — Kármán to Vortex, then cloak to Illusion
The smaller Vortex lane changes the temporal coordinate: periodic phase is removed and named Lamb/Taylor disturbances are read at event-relative offsets. The visual should retain the event labels and offsets—rather than relabelling them phase—and may show pulse-like action and downstream fields; target/control/zero roles are conditional and are not treated as audited together. A quantitative event-relative ROI L2 is not currently available in the authority chain, so no event L2 number should appear in Fig. 1; current Vortex DTW remains a case-specific signal comparison and is not a physical delay. The bounded reading is a named comparable-scale transient capability hypothesis, not arbitrary-flow control or transfer of the Kármán control skeleton. [M07; R1 metrics] The 075 Illusion lane changes the objective instead: the policy is asked to match a declared non-zero target signature rather than approach the physical background. The geometry is the target radius ratio 0.75 (physical radius 15 at L0=20), even where historical labels use diameter-like names. Use the retained V5 ill_075L, seed 43, as PPO capability evidence with target and controlled visual roles; physical zero and any field metric are conditional on exact role artifacts and must not be implied by the visual alone. This is a V5 historical capability lane, not a Legacy numerical continuation and not positive Illusion SR. The negative Legacy Illusion SR result may be stated locally as the reason SR is not promoted, without allowing that historical caveat to overwhelm the opening capability progression. [M07; R1 DRL/cases]
Paragraph 5 — boundary, degradation and bridge to Kármán depth
The breadth preview must carry its boundary beside its claim. If space permits after the steady, Vortex and Illusion progression is readable, one evidence-backed degradation indicator may be retained as a small optional secondary mark; otherwise it is dropped: in the V5 kar_re400, seed 43, the mean field improved relative to zero (E_mean=0.177469 versus 0.221541) while the phase diagnostic worsened (E_phase8=0.490471 versus 0.450626, \eta_phase8=-0.08842). This is a named-condition warning that mean and phase behavior can diverge, not a cross-Re law or a failure explanation. The figure must not combine this value with the Legacy Re100 L2 values, the corrected CCD mean ledger, Vortex event observations, steady profile quantities or Illusion PPO scores. With the progression and its limits visible, the text bridges to the Kármán sections: Kármán is the sole deep case because its evidence intersection permits performance, executable SR and descriptive mean/dynamic organization to be examined together; the later cross-case section returns to Vortex and Illusion under their own contracts. [M04; M06; M07]
Layer 2 — panel, provenance and claim ledger
Fig. 1 panel contracts
| Panel / visual role | Chain, case, roles and comparator | Metric/status shown | Caption-level limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| A. steady discovery seed | V5 steady/free-slip; accepted steady q_ctl against uniform/no-body q_in under E_inf_vector/profile status; q_blk is nonranking; stationary/reverse views are contextual only; late/profile view | Visual steady endpoint or profile; nonperiodic late/profile status; no periodic score | Contextual historical seed only; not Legacy SR/CCD evidence, phase evidence, mechanism, stability, optimum or pooled efficacy |
| B. Kármán headline (dominant, 50–55%) | Legacy karman_re100; target, physical zero and frozen PPO controlled roles; each role is under the Legacy solver/API and geometry; target is the comparator |
Principal spatial L2: complete-cycle E_mean; secondary separately reported E_phase8; exact values 0.085771 vs 0.475206 and 0.112680 vs 0.630878; \eta values optional in text/caption; DTW similarity only as complementary signal annotation (0.932899 vs 0.625127, target-normalized) |
Geometry-guarded ROI; solver-exact common mask not persisted. L2 is not a validation Level/Stage, DTW is not field equivalence/delay/causality. No V5 pooling |
| C. Vortex extension | Legacy vortex_lamb/vortex_taylor named visual roles; target/controlled/zero roles are conditional on exact artifact binding and are not presumed jointly audited; event offsets remain literal |
Event-relative visual and action trace; no quantitative event L2 currently. DTW, if annotated, is native Vortex signal comparison with its own window | Offsets are event-relative, not phase. No invented event L2; no arbitrary-flow, universal or Kármán-skeleton transfer claim. Quantitative event panel remains dependency-gated |
D. 075 Illusion objective extension |
V5 ill_075L, seed 43; separately constructed non-zero target and controlled PPO; physical zero only where exact role is bound; target radius ratio 0.75 |
PPO capability visual, with reward/force/DTW status only under exact V5 role and calibration identity; physical zero and field metrics are conditional on exact role artifacts | Historical V5 capability only; target matching is not full-state equivalence, common efficacy or positive Illusion SR. Negative Legacy Illusion SR is separate historical evidence |
| E. one degradation indicator (small, optional) | V5 kar_re400, seed 43; controlled versus zero under the V5 periodic field contract |
E_mean improves while E_phase8 worsens: 0.177469 vs 0.221541; 0.490471 vs 0.450626; \eta_phase8=-0.08842 |
Named diagnostic only, n=1; demonstrates estimand divergence, not cross-Re generalization, failure cause, or a pooled comparison |
Fixed composition and density hierarchy: A–D are left-to-right; B is visually dominant. The steady, Vortex and Illusion progression has priority over E. E is optional, may be dropped if it compromises that progression, and if retained is only a small marker/inset attached to B or its caption, never a fifth gallery panel. Explicitly show Legacy/V5 lanes and role labels. Do not include experiment.

Figure caption requirements
The caption must say that Fig. 1 is a capability/progression composition, not a common metric comparison. It must identify for every panel: chain (Legacy or V5), solver/geometry where relevant, case and seed, target/reference and role, temporal coordinate (steady late/profile, periodic cycle/phase, or event-relative offset), metric status and comparator. It must explicitly state that the Kármán L2 values are Legacy Re100 field estimands, that DTW is complementary signal similarity, that Vortex offsets are event-relative and have no current quantitative event L2, and that ill_075L is V5 PPO capability with target radius ratio 0.75. The caption must prohibit pooled efficacy, arbitrary-flow generalization, positive Illusion SR and experiment-as-evidence. Any retained E marker must be labelled a named V5 diagnostic showing mean/phase divergence, not a failure cause or cross-Re law.
Claim ladder
Green — supported at named scope
- The historical progression is steady discovery → periodic Kármán cloaking → event-relative Vortex demonstration → non-zero-target Illusion PPO capability.
- Legacy Kármán Re100 target/controlled/zero is closer to its target under both the declared complete-cycle mean-field and eight-slot phase L2 rows, with the exact values and ROI above.
- Legacy Kármán DTW similarity is higher for controlled than zero under its own target-normalized cycle contract; it complements, rather than replaces, spatial L2.
- Named Vortex visual roles and V5
ill_075LPPO provide bounded extension evidence under separate contracts. - Kármán is the selected deep case because it has the full evidence intersection for performance and interpretation.
Amber — bounded interpretation
- The cases establish breadth in temporal dynamics and objective: steady is nonperiodic, Kármán periodic, Vortex event-relative and Illusion non-zero-target periodic.
- Pulse-like Vortex actuation supports a comparable-scale event-response hypothesis in the named cases.
- The V5 degradation marker shows that mean and phase estimands can diverge under a named cross-Re case.
- A force-centred sparse-observation execution can be retargeted under named cases, while the positive control-skeleton interpretation remains Kármán/cloak-specific.
Red — prohibited in this section
- A pooled efficacy score, common bar, arithmetic combination, replication, validation, agreement or triangulation across these panels or with M06 CCD values.
- Arbitrary-flow control, continuous/general Re or offset/scale generalization, robustness or universality.
- Positive Illusion SR, target tracking by SR, or V5/Legacy numerical continuation/equivalence.
- Vortex event offsets called phase, Vortex event L2 invented, DTW called a physical delay or field equivalence.
- Illusion visual similarity called full-state equivalence or efficacy over physical zero without exact role artifacts.
- Steady discovery promoted to Legacy SR/CCD evidence, mechanism, stability or optimum.
- Experiment included in Fig. 1 or used as quantitative validation.
Imports, exports and bridge
Imports. M03 supplies the chain, role, action, ROI and metric vocabulary. M04 supplies the exact Legacy Re100 L2/DTW headline and V5 seed/retention boundary. M05 supplies positive SR scope limited to Legacy Kármán/cloak. M06 supplies descriptive Kármán mean/dynamic and CCD boundaries, but no numbers are imported into Fig. 1. M07 supplies Vortex event semantics, Illusion PPO capability and negative Illusion SR. M08 supplies steady chronology and the later full steady/theory return.
Exports to M04/M07. This section selects Legacy Kármán Re100 as the principal depth case while preserving M04’s field estimands and M07’s event/Illusion boundaries. It exports no cross-case score and no Kármán interpretation to Vortex or Illusion.
Final bridge. Fig. 1 establishes capability breadth under named, non-pooled contracts. The next section can therefore begin with the Legacy Kármán field comparison and ask what independent spatial matching shows beyond the wake-signature objective; later modules return to SR/field interpretation and full cross-case metrics without treating the progression figure as a results gallery.
Genuine blockers, deferrals and coverage ledger
Genuine blockers for retained figure content: a quantitative Vortex event-L2 panel is blocked until exact target/control/zero event roles, target identity, common ROI/mask, event window and evaluator output are bound. A quantitative Erase panel is not part of Fig. 1 and remains unsupported under the current historical route. An independently redrawn V5 selected-policy panel requires the matching model, VecNormalize and target artifacts. These blockers do not block the bounded text or the Vortex visual/Illusion capability panels.
Authority-led deferrals: raw Legacy Kármán fields, external/symlink-backed Vortex/Illusion payloads, exact solver masks and model/normalizer leaf audits are artifact-audit deferred where current authorities bind the role and summary without conflict. No publication-ready figure is claimed to exist.

Cross-module near-collision check
The Legacy M04 principal PPO field errors (0.085771, 0.475206) must not be compared arithmetically with M06 corrected CCD errors (0.0857787860, 0.4694352273) despite similar magnitudes and nominal x extent. M04 uses three independently acquired target/controlled/physical-zero roles, a geometry guard, unweighted lattice-cell RMS after U0 normalization, and a complete-cycle/phase8 contract; M06 uses four roles, a retained four-role window, an exact common solver-fluid mask and coordinate-weighted RMS on already nondimensional velocities. They are different estimands, not replication, validation, agreement or triangulation. The same prohibition applies to steady profiles, Vortex event observations, Illusion PPO reward/DTW and any proposed common figure bar.
Self-audit under the current gate
- Two layers: Layer 1 has five argumentative paragraphs with transitions and local limitations; Layer 2 carries panel contracts, exact provenance, roles, chains, Re conventions, comparators, estimands, ROI/windows and evidence status. This is a revised candidate for second audit, not a self-readiness declaration; the narrative may be text-ready while retained panels remain artifact-gated.
- Coverage: the controlling Round2 documents, Round1 dossiers and all ready Modules 03–08 were read. The ledger distinguishes read, mapped, not-covered and external-inaccessible; read is not independent verification or artifact audit.
- Progression fidelity: steady appears only as a short historical seed; Kármán is visually dominant and quantitatively exact; Vortex uses event-relative semantics with no invented event L2; Illusion is V5 PPO capability at target radius ratio 0.75; experiment is excluded.
- Claim boundaries: no pooled score, arbitrary-flow/generalization, positive Illusion SR, Kármán interpretation transfer, CCD number import or experiment claim. The negative Illusion SR caveat is local and does not replace the PPO capability statement.
- Figure integrity: every proposed panel has chain, role, comparator and metric status. The Kármán and optional degradation values are not merged with M06 or other estimands. No gallery inventory or common efficacy bar is proposed.
- Anti-index / anti-AI check: the narrative is progression-led rather than a package inventory; numbers appear only when they establish the headline or a visible boundary; figure contracts follow the narrative rather than replacing it; no citation, number, artifact, mechanism or generalization was invented.
Disposition: revised candidate for second audit. The bounded text is text-ready for parent review; raw/redrawn panels remain artifact-dependency-gated. Do not label this module self-ready or manuscript-ready.
